Expert Lecture at PEC on Intellectual Property Rights

An expert lecture on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) was delivered by Dr Parikshit Bansal, Director, Bansal IP Associates, on 6th March 2019 at The Centre of Management and Humanities (CMH), Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh. The lecture was organized as a part of PEC Industry Academia Week (4th-7th March, 2019) and was attended by students of M.Tech and faculty of CMH. The aim of the lecture was to appraise the students about the concept of IPRs, its application and implication in real life.

At the lecture, Dr Bansal spoke about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and how if not implemented at the right time opportunities can be lost. Talking about the eight different mechanisms used to protect the creation of the mind, he cited patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, layout designs, geographical indications, plant varieties and trade secrets at the core.

He explained the concept of “Trishul Test” through demonstration of various products in which he discussed novelty, innovativeness and industrial application of the idea. Even if one wants to use the idea for the purpose of charity, it should be registered as it gives a sense of pride and adds to the value of the country.” 

He also spoke various career opportunities in Intellectual Property Rights. “Progress in society cannot happen till the time, effort of people is rewarded,” Dr Bansal said signing off, “It is good to think, better to invent and best to commercialise.”
