Aerospace Engineering Department of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be a University), Chandigarh organized various expert lectures under Industry Institute Interaction Week between 5th to 7th March, 2019. The expert lectures in the field of aerospace were delivered by the experts invited from HAL, RCMA, DRDL, DRDO and IIT Kanpur. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head of Department, said that the Academia-Industry interaction week is organized every semester with a motive to give maximum exposure to the students about the current & advanced industrial & research activities being carried out in various industrial and research aerospace organizations. He encouraged the students to choose & work in the field of their interest and contribute to the society & country.

In the inaugural session on 5th March, Sh. Yogesh Kumar (Ex-Director HAL) enlightened students about Aircraft Systems – Evolution, Status and Emerging trends. As a project Director of LCA program, he shared his experience and challenges he came across during design and production of LCA-Tejas aircraft in another lecture. Talking about the success of the program, Sh. Yogesh said that LCA was not a product but a revolution for Indian aircraft industry and  it has given us much more in terms of infrastructure and human resource along with the aircraft, Tejas.

Sh. Deepak Lekhi from RCMA – CEMILAC delivered talk on process of aircraft certification and airworthiness. He said, safety is of utmost importance and CEMILAC through its various RCMA’s ensure safety of flying vehicles and systems by conducting various tests routinely. Indigenization is an important process which CEMILAC pushes for and highlighted that there is vast scope of entrepreneurship in defense aviation sector.

Dr. G. Naresh Kumar, Sc ‘F’ from DRDL, DRDO, Hyderabad delivered expert talk on working of missiles defense system. He discussed various aspects involved in the execution of weapon system especially missiles and exposed the students to a variety of fields so as to pursue research and career.

Dr. David Kumar from IIT Kanpur shared his research work on Micro Air Vehicles (MAV’s) and Nano Air Vehicles (NAV’s) in which he demonstrated the working of flapping wings. He also shared his experience of working in ISRO sponsored project in which he worked on inflatable satellites.

Dr. R. B. Sharma, former Scientist ‘G’ in DRDO interacted with the students and shared his experience in advanced materials for defense and space applications. He highlighted numerous application of smart & nano materials and encouraged the students to work on such area so as to contribute to the society & nation.
